Social Democracy
--
I'm sick and tired of the Swedish Social Democratic party.
Things which piss me off:
- The Minister of Justice: Thomas Bodström. The man is
turning Sweden into a police state in the name of
anti-terrorism. If he could have his way, he could have every
phoneline governed and every internet packet traced. Wait. He
already managed to get that. He's advocating 'tough measures',
hardening the law and scaring people into supporting him.
- The Prime Minister: Göran Persson. No matter how he
tries to spin it, I get the feeling that SD is in itself
unimportant to him- all he wants is power. Absolute power over
his regime and party, and by extension the nation. He's a very
skillful politician, so I can't point at facts, but its
just... a feeling. I just can't get myself to trust the man.
- Many more things, but now Im too tired to list them all,
or to remember them all.
The sad thing is that I don't feel close to any of the
other parties:
- Folkpartiet (socio-liberal party): I voted for them during
the last election, mostly since I was tired of voting
SD. Liberalism isn't at all foreign to me, as long as the
leaders acknowledge the five market failures and take steps to
avoid them. The disturbing thing is, the Swedish Folkpartiet
has been flirting with xenophobic voters, to fish
votes. Disgusting. Makes me want to throw up.
- Moderaterna (Conservative/Right-wing party): Ugh. With the
new 'cute' party leader, they are trying to paint themselves
as the new 'workers' party. The leader is quite convincing in
his oratory, but its easy to remember that most of the party
still consists of the hardline right.
- Kristdemokraterna (Christian Democrats): I would never,
never, NEVER, vote for a party with rightwing fundamentalist
christians high up on their list.
- Vänstern (Left party, former communists): With their
charismatic leader gone, they are stuck with a new leader who
can't disavow the horrors of Communism. Lenin was the guy who
is claimed to have said (Im paraphrasing here, since I don't
remember the actual quote) that 'nothing is as effective in
subdueing the masses as executing innocents'. I'm tired of
revolutions and blood.
- Miljöpartiet (Environmental Party): Why does an
environmental party have to be left wing? I would vote for
them without any hesitation if they could work with both
sides. Historically, Environmentalism has been associated with
the left, it is true, but there is so much work to do- our
planet is getting messed up by the hour. They can't afford to
not work with both sides.
- Feministisk Initiativ (Women's party): A new runner-up for
this coming elections. Led by the very Gudrun Schyman, who
used to be leader for the Communists. I feel strongly for
feminism, but I feel hesitant about voting for them- I have a
feeling that they want to impose equality by rules and
quotas. These are necessary, but to lean on these tools too
much will just cement the inequality. They need more men in
their list, as well as more than one non-socialist.
So where does this lead me? As of the late 1990's, I can't
even vote for Donald Duck, since votes for him no longer end
up in the category 'ballot used, but not valid', but instead
just plain 'invalid vote'. This means that it will not show in
the statistics that I actually voted. This was often the way
of saying that you believe in the democratic system but you
can't find a party which suits you. Now a vote for DD will
just lower the voter turnout percentile.
Oh well. I'll figure something out.
